Primary Forum - Trauma

This invitation is for people who work with children, young people and their families/whānau in, NGO, and Primary Level Services including school guidance counsellors, school based nurses, children and family workers.

The morning will include presentations on:

  • Updates from Werry Workforce and MHERC

 

  • Screening of Resilience Documentary: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope – a documentary by Jamie Redford

The film covers the link between Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and poorer physical and mental health as adults. The films also demonstrated some positive community, social and education initiatives to counteract the impact of trauma for children living in high stress environments.

 

  • Trauma and the body: An introduction to Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Developed by Pat Ogden PhD and enriched by research on attachment, trauma, neuroscience, and dissociation, this approach uses bodily experience as a primary entry point in trauma therapy. Presenter is Robbie Cave, a Christchurch school counsellor training in Sensorimotor psychotherapy.
